Facebook bought VR headset company Oculus for $2 billion in 2014, introducing 360 videos to its social network a year later. A prominent collaboration to come from the Oculus purchase so far is Spaces, where people can interact with friends in a virtual reality environment.

Facebook Spaces is an app specifically for the Oculus headsets. Users can launch VR apps and videos and move around to different parts of the environment, share images and videos, and interact with people who do not have the headsets.

In March 2017, Facebook released Facebook 360, a standalone app for the Samsung Gear VR. Facebook 360 offers over 1 million 360-degree videos and over 25 million 360-degree photos on Facebook, both from personal creators and professional producers like CNN VR, GoPro, VR network Blend Media and others.

Samsung has made an extremely large bet on virtual reality, creating the Samsung Gear VR headset and the Gear 360 Camera to capture video. The company now offers a VR controller and an improved version of the 360 camera.

The company is looking for partnerships and collaborations. It has gone great lengths to showcase its VR experiences at events, exhibitions, and at a permanent space in New York called Samsung 837.

Samsung Gear headsets are low cost, and only work with Samsung phones, but the company said it will be going after the high-end VR market dominated by Oculus and HTC.
